"Hayley. Walker. You are pure purple."

"Pure purple? Expound."

"Synesthesia.* Purest purple on the branch baby. That's just what you arrrre. Look up the symbolism of purple if you'd like."

So I did.

A bit on the color purple:

Purple symbolizes royalty, magic and mystery. It's a mix of hot red and cool blue. It is the only color that black and white communicate through, as it lets in access to both light and dark. Only in purple does light reach down to dark. Purple has been historically used as a sign of mourning, and can sometimes be considered unlucky. Violet, or purple, is at the top of the color spectrum and it vibrates at the highest frequency. Purple is a color or spirituality and wealth.

I was flattered to be called the color purple after my extensive research produced the above results. I even got some purple boots at Decades, and read to my little brother, Harold and the Purple Crayon.

*ALSO, check this out on synesthesia. I'm terribly envious of synesthetics. Isn't that crazy?

He quickly set sail. And the moon sailed along with him.

Transatlanticism

I have a fear of becoming too specific. Too focused solely on what's out there that has to do with what's right here. Oh gosh, there are so much bigger things. Naturally, I talk and think about things I know, but what a small slice of the big wide universe that is.

There's so much to KNOW. There's so much to think about. I feel that my brain and the world are inversely proportional. The more in the world there is to know the less my brain seems able to actually contain. It's a scary feeling, but a nice one too. It's so overwhelming there's hardly a need to swim out and above. It feels nice to drown in it all, sometimes.

"The universe is no narrow thing and the order within it is not constrained by any latitude in its conception to repeat what exists in one part in any other part. Even in this world more things exist without our knowledge than with it and the order in creation which you see is that which you have put there, like a string in a maze, so that you shall not lose your way. For existence has its own order and that no man’s mind can compass, that mind itself being but a fact among others."

There I go again, quoting McCarthy and rambling about the universe.

A little try at philosophy

I think the worst thing one can do to jeapordize their own happiness is become so engrossed in oneself and happiness (ironic, isnt it?) that it becomes all they worry about. There is too many people like that in our beautiful little world. I'm afraid I may be one of them on occasion. Make someone happy and you will be too.

Let's make Mondays a national holiday

On occasion, a thought-provoking topic is brought up in class and helps alleviate the everyday numb mindedness which settles in about halfway through first period and lasts until 2:15 in the afternoon. Mostly though, in class I read. Today in history I learned about the Civil Rights Movement and Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. If you haven't, you should watch the "I have a dream" speech. How I wish I could have been there myself. When I grow up I want to be the cool teacher who actually teaches things, and doesn't mind so much if a student has an open book hidden under their desk.
